Things go from bad to good to worse for Maryland game studio, which finds itself closed for the second time in under a year.

In addition to providing Impossible Studios employees with three months of severance pay, we’ll be giving the team the opportunity to form a new company with the Impossible Studios name and the awesome Impossibear logo.”

Sweeney said that Infinity Blade: Dungeons is now on hold as Epic figures out the future of the project. Chair Entertainment was also working with Impossible Studios on the game, which originated from the Cary headquarters.

Big Huge Games developed titles such as the Rise of Nations strategy games, Catan for Xbox LIVE Arcade, Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties for PC, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Epic Games, which celebrated 20 years in the game industry last year, has seen a number of big names depart of late. Capps, Rod Fergusson and Cliff Bleszinski all exited the studio in 2012, as well as People Can Fly founder Adrian Chmielarz.
