Things go from bad to good to worse for Maryland game studio, which finds itself closed for the second time in under a year.

Former baseball great Curt Schilling purchased Big Huge Games and launched Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning in February 2012 through his 38 Studios and Electronic Arts. Schilling’s company went bankrupt in May 2012 and Big Huge Games was closed. But an email to then-president of Epic Games Mike Capps from the studio resulted in a new studio being born.

Impossible Games was officially launched in August 2012 with a large number of ex-Big Huge Games developers remaining in Maryland. Sean Dunn was put in charge of the studio, which was tasked to continue development of Infinity Blade: Dungeons for iOS devices.

Today, Epic founder Tim Sweeney said that Impossible Studios is being shuttered.

“When former members of Big Huge Games approached Epic last year, we saw the opportunity to help a great group of people while putting them to work on a project that needed a team,” said Sweeney. “It was a bold initiative and the Impossible folks made a gallant effort, but ultimately it wasn’t working out for Epic.
