The man behind this summer's Pacific Rim is working on tablet games for the sci-fi movie.

“When you have the motion comics they provide an experience that is different from reading a comic,” said del Toro. “They almost provide you with an animated movie of the story. That allows you as a reader to manipulate time in a different way because you’re almost watching the story unfold as a reader, whereas in the comic book you are in command of how long you stay on that panel and how quickly you move through a page. Motion comics allow that halfway experience between an animated movie and a comic book.”

Del Toro, who’s a self-professed geek and gamer at heart, believes more traditional digital comics – minus the motion – are good for the industry.

“I know a lot of people that are now only reading comics on their tablet,” said del Toro. “More and more people are reading and downloading them digitally. I read quite a bit of books now on the tablet.”

Del Toro also revealed that he’s working with game developers on tablet games for his big summer 2013 movie, Pacific Rim. But he’d love to do a bigger game that explore that universe of giant robots battling an alien invasion.
