Black Flag brings fun and excitment back to the franchise. Find out how in our review!
There is a lot to in the world of Black Flag. Hunting makes its return in Black Flag as Edward can track and skin animals just like his grandson. While hunting is fun, this is a pirate game and Edward is on the search for loot. There are tons of loot chests lying around the world, waiting for Edward to grab. Also, Edward can find treasure maps, which can lead him to loot or upgrades for his ship. Keeping an eye out for these chests will allow Edward to gain loot, which he can use to buy weapons and ship upgrades.
Loot can be found everywhere.
The parkour style movement of the Order of Assassins is back and it feels more fluid than ever. This is due to the world being specifically designed to cater to Edward’s movement and exploration. The momentum of the game feels great and it is as easy as ever to scale walls and jump into large piles of hay. You will still suffer the same fate of previous games in the series. While attempting to sneak up on a few enemies and attack from above, I accidently jumped off a roof by accident blowing my cover. Accidently jumping off ledges and scaling walls by mistake hold this feature back as always. Thankfully, the combat we love is still there.
Edward is on the search for the ultimate loot.
In Black Flag, real pirates carry two swords. Early on in the game Edward rids himself of the traditional Assassin’s Blade which may be Ubisoft symbolizing the new direction of the franchise. Edward is a master at two-handed sword fighting and he pulls off the brutal counters and kills to prove it. Combat has been improved with giving you different counter options that allow you to control the fight. Feel free to take on multiple enemies as always as all it takes is a well-placed parry to change the direction of a fight.
