Black Flag brings fun and excitment back to the franchise. Find out how in our review!
Starting the game off with a naval battle showcases the focus of this game. In Black Flag you will spend a lot of time in the water sailing ships and searching for treasure. The naval battles from the previous game return in Black Flag, but they have been improved. First, controlling the ships in Black Flag is better. The controls are tighter and more responsive allowing you to actually enjoy sailing in the game. Combat is handled by simply aiming and firing at other ships. This may seem simple, but with the attention that is being paid to naval battles in this game, this is a welcome change to the previous system.
Naval battles are actually fun.
The visuals of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag are inspiring. Being that this is one of the last Triple A titles being released on current generation consoles, the game maximizes all the power they have to offer. You will be awestruck at the presentation of the game as a whole. Once you begin to explore, you will notice the details that make this game amazing. The color of the ocean, how the light reflects off of the water, and how the wildlife moves and acts in the environment. The first sunset you see when sailing while a giant whale jumps up out of the ocean will be unforgettable.
The graphics of the game are beautiful.
The world of Black Flag is massive. Being able to explore the Caribbean as a charismatic pirate assassin is fun. There are tons of islands, cities, and caves to explore within the game. Exploration is key as this will grant you treasure maps, ship upgrades, and a few other hidden surprises. Black Flag’s world feels fully realized and it is beyond fun to explore. For the first time in the series, I found myself wanting to ignore the main quest and set sail on my own to see what the world had to offer. While some side missions still anchor you down by having to follow someone and eavesdrop on them, ignoring them all and setting sail on your own is truly rewarding.
