Is a trip to the Kalos region to be a Pokemon master worth your time?
Fairy-type was added to counter the strength of Dragon-type Pokemon. Several Pokemon have had their type changed to fairy and new Pokemon are new fairy type Pokemon. It also looks like there are more fire type Pokemon such as Talonflame added to the Pokedex. Another major addition to the series is Mega Pokemon. You’ll find yourself taking battles to the next level with Mega Pokemon. Several fan favorites have gotten Mega forms such as Blaziken and Ampharos. Mega Pokemon are only Mega in battle and returns to their non-mega state out of battle. Pokemon will be stronger in Mega form and some might have their abilities change for the better.
Now with every good game there are pros and cons. Pokemon X and Y is no different. The battles look great in 3D and have a “non-realistic” look to the Pokemon. However, during battles, I found the action to lag a little bit, even when there wasn’t that much going on. Also, not everything was in 3D which isn’t a bad thing considering how the battles lag. The Pokemon and Pokedex entries are in 3D but the city/town isn’t in 3D. Since everything isn’t in 3D, I found myself not burning through the battery of the 3DS which I thought since I found myself burning through the battery while playing other 3DS games. One mode of transportation added was the roller blades, which sounds like a good idea when initially reported. However, when I found out that the C-pad was the way to start using them, they aren’t easy to control. I felt the C-pad was the perfect way to maneuver through the 3D environment but the D-pad works; it just doesn’t make traveling through the Kalos region easy. It’s these reasons that I give Pokemon X and Y for the 3DS a 9/10, a great game with several features put in for the fans but has some issues, mostly the battle lagging.
Pokemon fans have been waiting for these games for quite some time and X and Y doesn’t disappoint.
Score: 9 / 10
