Sega treats Mickey Mouse right with this inspired platformer remake.
It's never frustrating, though. Sega's Australian studios have done a great job keeping the game on the sort of level that all ages can enjoy – both the youngens and the dedicated platforming fans alike. We were concerned with the controls a bit with a previous demo, as they felt slippery. However, the final game holds up just fine, with plenty of challenges and techniques to master – particularly Mickey's high bounce, which you execute by coming off an enemy. This allows you to reach up-above areas that are otherwise outside your proximity.
Sega Australia has done a superb job with the game's graphics. They really created a sensual world for Mickey to explore, and have even taken a few cues from the classic Genesis game, from the toyland level where you're bopping off the heads of toy soldiers to the floating leaf stage, where you have to avoid spiders while collecting whatever you can find. It looks really good, even if Mickey's animations do get a bit repetitive. Eh, he's Mickey, we'll forgive it.
