James Silva returns with a loving nod of the cap to the old-school brawler.
Each of the characters varies in appearance, but perform about the same with punches, kicks and movement. Tank, the largest of the group, looks like the toughest of the pack, but don't count out the smaller members – they too can pack a punch. Besides, you'll need to pick different characters when it comes to multiplayer, as each person has to play someone unique. No biggie – most beat-em-ups have been this way anyway. You don't see four Wolverines running around in X-Men, do you?
The gameplay is vintage beat-em-up fun, with lots of heads to bash and bosses to take on. It's what's on top, however, that's a real delight. You can level up your characters effectively and give them super abilities that can clear the place, like a shout through a megaphone that decimates anyone it touches.
On top of that, a skill tree lets you strengthen your character in a number of ways, and you can also buy clothes and get tattoos to give yourself enhanced abilities. There's only so much you can store in your bag as far as health items and other goodies go, but that's usually the way it works with a brawler like this.
