This one won't put you to sleep.
Even though Mario had enough role-playing action going on with his Paper Mario series, that didn't stop Alphadream from cranking out its own special series featuring the plumber and company. After getting its start with Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga, it moved on to several sequels, including the noteworthy Bowser's Inside Story.
Now, the company has its 3DS debut with the franchise, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. It's a bit different from previous games, as you'll fight your way through both the realistic world of Pi'illo Island and Luigi's dream one, since he's able to sleep through, well, pretty much anything.
Luigi, unable to stay awake for some reason, dozes off on a magical stone pillow, and this opens up a portal where Mario is able to enter his brother's dreams. It looks like he has to, since there's an evil force threatening everything surrounding the island. It's your usual "Mario saves the world" plot, but it's great to see Luigi have such a focal point in it.
The game reintroduces the fun turn-based battle system that worked so well in previous games, and also has some intricate puzzles that require a bit of thinking to get through. The tempo for Dream Team is set up just right, giving you a lot to do, but not making it impossible when it comes to getting around.
