Rise Of The Triad Keeps It Strictly Old-School – But That's Not A Bad Thing

Interceptor Entertainment's first-person shooting throwback is a must for those seeking that "classic" challenge.

Though the graphics are hardly on the same level as most of today's efforts, they are true to the code of the original game, with a speedy frame rate and some good little details here and there.  The music is about right as well, not going above and beyond in orchestration, but still nailing the proper tone for a game of this magnitude.  Oh, don't forget to try Ludicrous settings.  They make the game, well, ludicrously nuts.

The single player campaign doesn't last too long, but multiplayer is a romp, utilizing the classic Deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes that have become staples for a game like this.  What it lacks in originality, it makes up for with sheer adrenaline pumping.  Taking on friends never felt so good.

No, Rise of the Triad isn't the ultimate PC effort, and, to some, its difficulty may be too much to bear.  But if it's a gritty, entertaining first-person shooter you're after, step on up.  These Triad mean business.

Score: 8 / 10
