Newbies may be overwhelmed by the combat and design, but fans will feel right at home.
Team Ace did do a splendid job with the in-game visuals, as this game looks like nothing before it. It even goes as far as to top the original Zeno Clash in terms of weirdness, between the slug-like characters and the amazingly strange environments. It's like stepping into an artist's head and trying to convey the message with him or her in your own interactive way. There are moments of slowdown and sloppiness during combat, where you can't really see what's happening, but, fortunately, it doesn't happen that often.
The same level of creativity doesn't go into the audio, though. The music is mostly forgettable fantasy sludge, while the voicework doesn't add enough distinction to the characters. It's as if the artists and voice recorders were on completely different teams, battling to get their visions to match up – and they just couldn't do it.
Gameplay consists mostly of fighting, though sometimes you'll be able to pick up a weapon to help out the cause. Strangely enough, though, you're better off handling things bare-handed, as the guns in the game don't nearly serve as great an effect as you might think. At least the combat moves work adequately enough, ranging from a multi-punch combo to pile-driving some poor sap into the ground.
