Is there anything new to offer on this second Blu-Ray release? Find out in our review!
The picture quality of the film is the same as the original Blu-Ray release from three years ago. While the overall quality is still good, it is disappointing that there was no attempt made to update the picture. The day scenes in Vacation shine bright. The colors are vibrant and the everything is brightly lit with great detail. These scenes are similar as beautiful as Christy Brinkly’s cameo in the film.

The day light scenes are gorgeous.
The film suffers in the darker scenes. The blacks showcased in the film are overly pronounced and forces out the light in the scene. At times, it is difficult to see the detail in the actors while watching the film. The lighting is trapped by the darkness and details and sharpness become casualties. This is the same transfer from the original Blu-Ray release, but it could have been updated for this special 30th Anniversary Edition. The supplements are unfortunately more of the same.

The darker scenes are loose detail.
The same supplements from the original Blu-Ray release return for this special edition. The unfunny but appreciated intro from Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid, and Matty Simmons returns along with the original trailer for the film. The original commentary from the DVD release makes another appearance on this special edition. Along with the above cast members, Dana Barron, Anthony Michael Hall, and director Harold Ramis join in on a hilarious discussion of the film. While this is great, it is the same track as previous releases and nothing new is covered.
