Prepare to create a new neural pathway, so you will never forget. Find out why in our review!

Neo-Paris screams open world adventure. A great opportunity for developers to hide collectables and trinkets throughout the world was missed. Nilin does use platforming to traverse Neo-Paris, which again screams exploration, yet you are not able to. Remember Me is not an open world game and you are directed in a linear path towards the next objective. Now, Remember Me never promised that it would be an open world game, but a world this beautiful begs to be discovered. Unfortunately, you are shackled by the confines of a linear story progression. The game is also anchored down by the gameplay.

Nilin has the ability to alter outcomes by entering people's memories.

The gameplay in Remember Me attempts to be as unique as the world it inhabits. Unfortunately, it does not meet the standard set by the presentation. Remember Me is a button masher at heart where simple combos are pulled off by alternating between two buttons. In order to attempt to inject a dose of uniqueness to the gameplay, Remember Me features a combo lab. Throughout gameplay you achieve keys that unlock different Pressens. These Pressens are used to alter combos and can replenish abilities like health. While you can alter these combos at will in the Combo Lab, once you find the combo that suits your needs, there is no incentive to create another.

The Leapers are humans who have overdosed on memories.

Using these combos on the Leapers and other opposition you face in Remember Me is fun at first, but the novelty quickly wears off. You quickly learn what to expect from your enemies and how to counteract their attacks. The A.I. never poses much of a challenge and is only a threat in overwhelming numbers. The biggest mistake in the combat is the lack of a dedicated block button. In order to avoid being attacked, Nilin must jump over her opponent. The lack of a block button or even a parry button makes the combat seem empty and unfinished. The gameplay provides many unique ideas, but never follows thorough on it’s potential. The element of gameplay that is the most fun, is the Memory Remixes.
