The changes in Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut is buried beneath its survival horror exterior. The game features a new set of cutscenes. The cutscenes feature a elderly man who weaves the events of the game into a story that he tells a little girl. These cutscenes do not add much to the narrative of the original. They mostly serve as bookends that bring the story together. The Director’s Cut also features a completely reworked control scheme that makes use of the SIXAXIS controller. The controls work surprisingly well. Issues still remain from the original such as not being able to move while your gun is drawn. This leaves you open for attack and could have been fixed in this version. The game also features 3D and Playstation Move controls, but neither is worth the time or effort.

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut is an interesting game and one that is difficult to score. The actual mechanics and graphics of the game are not good, yet the story is so unique that it inspires you to force your way through the darkness to see the brilliance. Deadly Premonition is more of an experience than a game. It is easy to see how games like Heavy Rain were inspired by its uniqueness. While there is not enough here for those who have already experienced the game, this is a great chance for those looking for an experience like none other. This game is worth the download.
Quite the story indeed.
