Just like Fast Five, this sequel is best enjoyed by simply gearing up for the ride.
But there are complications. Letty has memory loss, unaware of just who Toretto is (during one sequence, she shoots him without blinking); and some of the crew are missing, as Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) is tied up back home with a kid, and a couple of the guys from Fast Five are inexplicably out.
That's okay, because most of the stylish members made the trip. Tyrese Gibson has some fun as Roman, still cracking wise (his barbs with Hobbs are a trip); Chris "Ludacris" Bridges" once again returns as the tech-heavy Tej; Gal Gadot continues to smolder as the hot Gisele; and Sung Kang has his hands full, as his character Han has hooked up with her.
Together, the team must find a way to take down Shaw and his more-than-capable team – including Joe Taslim, fresh from The Raid: Redemption (and still kicking plenty of butt). As the movie speeds along, director Justin Lin (in his fourth – and final – go-around with the series), sets up some incredible, if preposterous action sequences. One involves a freeway chase with a tank, sports cars, and, by its conclusion, two people flying in midair. It gets preposterous, to the point that you have to question just how anyone could survive a mid-air catch like that and not take any significant damage.
