Is the sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 blockbuster worth the ticket price? Find out inour review!
Quinto’s delivery of his lines as the half Vulcan, half human Spock are hilarious. His exchanges between Kirk and Uhura are a treat to watch but his emotional scenes are the most impressive. Harrelson’s character is dark and brooding from the beginning. There is clearly more than meets the eye with John Harrison and that is all part of the fun. Discovering his motives and abilities throughout the movie is a delight. Even though you may see the twist and betrayal coming from a mile away, Cumberbatch’s performance keeps you intrigued until the very end. The supporting cast is great as well with Simon Pegg’s Scottie and Karl Urban’s Bones delivering their share of the humor. Alice Eve’s character is the weakest link in the movie. The story would occur exactly the same if her character had never existed.
Spock and Uhura share some great scenes.
Star Trek: Into Darkness is an absolutely beautiful film. The presentation is amazing and the effects are mind blowing. We were able to view the film in IMAX and it is worth the inflated ticket price. Into Darkness is the first film to be shot natively in IMAX and then converted to 3D. While the 3D does not add anything special, shooting the film in IMAX allows the audience to soak in all the rich colors, action, and explosions. The only criticism here is the use of light in the film. Abrams is clearly a fan of Speilberg and it shows when bright beams of light are shown behind the actors. This became annoying and frustrating throughout the movie.
I imagine that this is the only reason Alice Eve was cast.
Star Trek: Into Darkness is fantastic. If Iron Man 3 started the summer movie season off, Into Darkness is here to usher it in with a bang. The story is great and the pacing of the film is superb. The performances from all of the returning cast are fantastic. Cumberbatch and Robocop himself Peter Wellers also deliver strong and terrifying performance within the film. The uses of light in the film as well as the casting of Alice Eve were unnecessary and frustrating. Still, Into Darkness sets the bar for summer films. Your move Man of Steel.
The final confrontation is awesome.
