Though the story could've been better, the game delivers classic multiplayer brawling in spades.

The graphics aren't 100 percent polished with Sacred Citadel, but they aren't bad. Animations look impressive enough, especially on bigger enemies, and the changes to the environment with each new level are nice to notice. Sometimes the design is a bit misleading, especially when it comes to staying on a narrow platform or making a jump, but it's hardly what I'd call a game-breaker. You just have to deal with it and move on to the next horde of goblins.
Likewise, the audio doesn't amaze, but it fits the bill as far as the Sacred license is concerned (the game ties in with Sacred 2 and its forthcoming sequel). The music is pleasant, trying to mimic the old Golden Axe vibe and mostly succeeding. The voicework and sound effects are brief, but sufficient. It's not like we needed a whole mess of dialogue for this anyway, since we're skipping past the cut scenes as it is.
In the end, The Sacred Citadel reminds us of the greatness of arcade beat-em-ups of old, while containing enough new-school elements to keep us interested. Get your buddies together and have yourself a brawl.
