Though the story could've been better, the game delivers classic multiplayer brawling in spades.
As you proceed through the game, you'll learn new combat moves that will expand your techniques, like the ability to uppercut enemies into the air and smack them with a few hits before they land. Some of them do get repetitive, but it's mostly fun, mainly because of what's all at your fingertips. New weapons go a long way to keeping you alive as well, and though the "super" attacks aren't earth-shattering like Golden Axe's were, they will help you get the jump on goblins and other towering foes.
Sacred Citadel benefits from having others on board. Like the arcade games of old, you can join in with friends and make it a multiplayer brawl, and the more the merrier. The game runs fine with multiple players running around, and it's great getting into a scoring competition, just to see who can kick the most butt. And, for good measure, if you're a daring type, you can also bet with a booker in certain areas of the game, to see if you can make it through a stage with a minimal amount of damage – or alive, in some cases. It adds a nice twist to things.
In addition, the RPG elements are cool, as you can improve power, speed and other areas with points you earn over the course of the game. And there are plenty of stages of action here, though you will eventually reach the end sooner rather than nature. Yep, that's the nature of brawlers. They just don't last forever.
