Despite problematic AI and a severe lack of competitive multiplayer, there's some trashy merit in this sequel.
Still, there is some value here, and the presentation shows it, with enough explosive gusto, decent stage settings (the chase sequences are awesome) and humorous Delta Squad-esque dialogue to pass the time with. And those Frostbite 2-powered effects really pay off, especially with the bigger explosions. BOOM.
Plus, the weapon modifications make a welcome return, so you can earn mad cash teaming with your partner the right way, then spend it accordingly on better performance for your gun of choice. And you feel the effects in battle as well, even if there are very few enemies that will pose a challenge for your arsenal.
Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel may not be the most heavily recommended action game out there, but if you're looking for something quick and exciting, you could certainly do worse for a weekend. Find the right partner and your team could go to town on the moving shooting gallery easy. Just don't expect a game changer like so many of the other March releases provided.
