There are so many better shooters to play than this one.

Zombie Studios had the opportunity to make something that wasn't so cookie-cutter in the action world, but it couldn't quite get the job done.  The cel-shaded engine is good, but the lack of maps that really stand out in locale design, along with the somewhat plain enemy animation (they don't even react to getting killed, as you might see in the above screenshot), would've been wonderful with more effort.  The sound is bland too, between forgettable war music and taunts that repeat so often, you could probably memorize when they're being used.

For $15, Special Forces: Team X is a hard game to accept.  When it works, it's a decent shooter, but hardly anything along the lines of what you've seen in other downloadable games like Section 8: Prejudice and Hybrid.  And when it doesn't, well, it's a mess.  Try the trial version and then decide if this Team is worth joining.  Me?  I already belong to a superior crew, thanks.

Score: 5 / 10
