Gameloft’s first Unreal Engine 3 project, the hack-and-slash adventure Wild Blood, stands out for many reasons. The new action game forges an original tale in King Arthur’s Camelot, while painting one of the most visually stunning mobile gaming worlds since Epic Games’ Infinity Blade franchise.

“By using Unreal we had examples to follow, documents to refer to, source code to learn about, and tech support available for every single step along the way,” said the team. “It made everything much easier to get done.”

A lot has happened over the past two-plus years in the tablet space. Portable gaming experiences like Wild Blood introduce much deeper gameplay and more realistic worlds for exploration. Epic Games’ Infinity Blade 1 and II and its upcoming Infinity Blade: Dungeons are some examples of how far mobile gaming can be pushed today with Unreal technology. Wild Blood is the latest example that showcases what’s possible in mobile.

“Tablets have made it so that there is truly no platform boundary between the mobile and console platforms,” said the team. “In addition to a visually appealing game, I think we did very well in bringing an almost ‘console-like’ experience to the mobile platform.”

In addition to the deep single player experience, Wild Blood also offers local and online multiplayer options, including Capture the Flag and four-on-four Team Deathmatch gameplay. The team was able to craft a robust multiplayer experience that takes advantage of the intuitive gamplay controls and gorgeous environments.

“With Wild Blood, we are bringing a genre to iOS which was never been seen before,” said the team. “There is not a real comparison on the App Store, with no other comparable third person action games.”

Wild Blood certainly stands apart from the crowd, although there were comparisons in reviews to Epic’s own award-winning portable franchise. Gameloft just launched Wild Blood for Apple iOS devices and it’s coming soon to Android devices. Pretty soon, the entire world of mobile gamers will be able to explore the Kingdom of Camelot in a very different way than any past Hollywood or gaming incarnations.
