Gameloft’s first Unreal Engine 3 project, the hack-and-slash adventure Wild Blood, stands out for many reasons. The new action game forges an original tale in King Arthur’s Camelot, while painting one of the most visually stunning mobile gaming worlds since Epic Games’ Infinity Blade franchise.

Gamers step into the armor of Sir Lancelot du Loc and face off against much more than just the Knights of the Round Table. In this game world, Queen Guinevere is being held captive by sorceress Morgana Le Fey. Arthur, mad with jealousy over the affair, has allowed his sister to open the Hell Gate and unleash waves of demons to wreak havoc. The gameplay incorporates tapping to attack, evade and power-up, while a virtual on-screen joystick controls Lancelot’s movements.

“We wanted to bring a third person hack’n’slash game to smartphones and tablets that offered console quality graphics throughout 10 different levels,” said the development team at Gameloft (company rules don’t allow employees to be singled out in interviews). “We also wanted to offer more than 10 hours of gameplay, which is very rare on iOS.”

Wild Blood is the latest stellar mobile game that’s been created from the ground up using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 technology. It’s the first Unreal game from Gameloft, one of the leading mobile game publishers in the world today.

“The Unreal Engine 3 is a complete game development framework for iOS, providing a vast array of core technologies and content creation tools – and the UDK also offers the same power and flexibility,” said the team. “These tools’ success has been proven countless times through having previously published a number of releases and achieving dozens of awards. For us, we saw this as a way to make awesome games on iOS and Android using the UE3.”
