Another great gaming year has gone by and another equally great one looks to be on the horizon. These are five of the most anticipated games of 2013.

2) The Last of Us

Games these days are becoming more and more like film in the way that they can capture emotion and provide a cinematic experience for the player while still being interactive, and the survival horror action-adventure game The Last of Us developed by Naughty Dog looks to further that argument. The player takes control of survivor Joel as he accompanies his AI companion, a young girl named Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic America where a fungal virus has infected the population and destroyed modern society. What really makes this game so appealing is its incredible attention to detail and what the developers call “dynamic stealth” where the player can take any situation and get through it how they see fit with the enemies reacting differently every time. For instance, in one scenario shown at E3 this year the player encounters a group of bandits in an apartment and it is up to them whether they want to deal with them or find a way to sneak around. Judging from these clips, it is amazing how much detail is placed in this game; from the shuffling of clothes in a dresser when Joel hides against it, to Ellie picking up a brick at the beginning and using it to aid Joel when he is in distress later on. An intriguing story, vibrant graphics and game world, a radiant musical score and likeable characters round out my reasons why I am so excited for this game. May 7, 2013 just can’t come quick enough.
