Sssssssssssss!
The minute I saw Snake Pass, I knew I wanted to try it out. Cue the music for this years Pax East. Snake Pass is part science and part fun. Long story short, Noodle and Doodle’s home of Harmony Foothills is threatened, they’re the only ones that can save the day with Snake Physics.
You move around the different levels by slithering and sliding to gain speed so you can climb things. This is the basis of Snake Physics. You will need to master this Snake Physics to get through the game.
There are all kinds of things to climb in the world of Snake Pass that you will need enough speed to get all the way up and if you don’t get that speed, it’s could be a long way to the bottom. However, Doodle the Hummingbird can help prevent you falling by grabbing your tail. That way you have a little extra time to figure out that next move or to keep you upright o you don’t fall.
Physics plays a key in the game too like I mentioned before with Snake Physics. You need to coil Noodle up tight enough and fast enough to climb bamboo to get to coins and keystones.
You need Keystones to open gates to proceed in the levels. Water changes the way the mechanics work like in most classic video games. In Snake Pass, Water makes Noodle float and makes it a little easier to climb things. You still need to gather a good amount of speed to climb but it’s easier than on dry land.
I played the demo on the Nintendo Switch and the controls are a little tough getting used to at first but once you do, you’ll have Noodle blowing through the levels. Staying on the structure you’re trying to climb up is challenging but the faster you’re moving, the easier that should be.
As I said the controls are a little challenging because you for-the-most-part always needed to hold the right shoulder button of the Switch controller and then maneuver with the left control stick. It just takes some getting used to because there aren’t that many games that use control schemes like this. I will say that the controls were tight and responsive on the Switch demo! There is plenty to collect in Snake Pass so completionists will have plenty to do and it looks plenty challenging so rest up, snake enthusiasts!
