In a new Gamescome interview video, Namco Bandai has revealed several new details about their upcoming medieval death-fest Dark Souls II.

In celebration of this year’s Gamescom conference, publisher Namco Bandai has released a new video interview in which Dark Souls II game director Yui Tanimura talks a bit about what’s staying the same in the sequel and what he and his team are planning on changing.

During the interview, Tanimura answers several questions pertaining to the upcoming sequel to one of the most brutally difficult games of this generation. He mentions how, unlike in the first Dark Souls, all of the player character’s movements and attacks have been redone from scratch; adding a new layer of fluidity to the combat. The video also contains a hefty amount of in-game footage including some of the more hilarious death scenes.

Near the end of the video, two major new changes are revealed, one through the in-game footage and another from Tanimura’s own lips. According to Tanimura, Dark Souls II will feature more prevalent roleplaying elements as he feels that player interaction is one of the core experiences that makes the Dark Souls universe so unique. More dastardly players should beware however as it looks like players will be able to team up and help each other when someone tries to invade one of their respective worlds.

Check out the video above for the full interview and get ready to die all over again when Dark Souls II is released on PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360 next year.
