Relive some classic video game moments in the Super Mario Franchise
I’m not going to hide that one of my all time favorite Nintendo characters is the main man in red, Mario. Some of my favorite memories have been playing Mario games. Please join me in taking “A Look Back” at Super Mario games. For the record, "Everybody do the Mario" should one of those things that everyone knows how to do yet doesnt let on that they know how to. Thank you Super Mario Super Show!
I guess it all started with Super Mario Brothers for the NES and early on, playing was a family affair. My parents would play with my brother and I and it was a great time. I was the younger brother but I got to play as Mario, probably because I wanted to be player 1. I can still hear the underwater theme from Mario 1 like it was yesterday and that was my favorite theme in Mario 1. I can also remember having video game marathons on New Years with my mom and brother. We would play Galaga and Mario for hours while we waited for new years on the couch bed. My dad was a firefighter so I guess it took our minds off that he wasn’t able to spend the holiday with us some times because he was on stand-by down at the firehouse.
It was around that time when the Game Boy came out and I got that for Easter one year with Ren and Stimpy: Space Madness. I can still see the display for the Game Boy at Sears and standing in the shopping cart playing Super Mario Land 2 flying through the Mario Zone with rabbit ears ringing the mid-point bell. Super Mario Brothers 3 is still one of my favorite games and one of the best games to play. This was the one game that I had to play at our family friends’ house and can still remember only getting through the first desert fortress. I was young at the time so take that into consideration.
We got the Super Nintendo late in the system’s life and got Donkey Kong Country with it for Christmas. We also got Super Mario World, one of the best games for the system. My brother and I would spend hours completing the Star Road and trying to beat the extra levels on the Star Road. This was probably one of the first games I can remember trying to collect everything so we could have a perfect score on the start screen. The came the likes of Mario World 2, another amazing game for the SNES. Starring Yoshi, the game has some of the best music and is one of my favorite games.
