The devs behind Diablo III unveiled some new details regarding the game's port to next-gen consoles and why they're waiting until next year to do so.

In a recent interview over at DiabloFans.com, several Diablo III developers talked shop about the game and explained why we won’t be seeing the PlayStation 4 version until 2014 and why the game isn’t coming to Xbox One.

During the lengthy interview with developers Josh Mosqueira, Travis Day, and Wyatt Cheng, the three shared their thoughts on a variety of both in-game and external topics regarding Diablo III. Among the issues discussed was the possibility of an eventual mobile port (not likely since the devs want to focus on the PC and console versions) and the reasoning behind the 2014 release date for the PlayStation 4 version:

We thought that it’s really important we stagger development, so that we focus first on the PC, then to focus on current-gen and then – now that that’s done – we’re really looking at how to make it to the next-gen. Always making sure we’re making the right decisions to make each of the platforms really take advantage of what makes those platforms unique and special.

The three developers also mentioned during the interview that they never received Xbox One dev kits from Microsoft which meant that making an Xbox One version of the game was sort of impossible. The PlayStation 3 version of Diablo III is still set to be released this September and the team has emphasized that they want to focus on supporting both the PC and console versions of the game simultaneously once the console versions are released.
