BioWare promises that the next Mass Effect game will appeal to both returning players and newcomers to the series.

BioWare Montreal Studio Director Yanick Roy has confirmed that the next entry in the Mass Effect series will appeal to a diverse range of players regardless of their previous exposure to the original trilogy.

Roy made the confirmation via Twitter after being questioned about whether or not the new Mass Effect game would have something similar to Mass Effect: Genesis (the interactive motion comic that helped PlayStation 3 players bridge the gap between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 since the original Mass Effect was never released on PS3) to help newcomers get caught up on the story from the original trilogy.

@simonjthomas Too soon to say, but we'll be sure to be friendly both to old fans and to newcomers.

He was also questioned about the possible return of same-sex romance options to which he said he doesn’t see any reason why they wouldn’t be included.

@AC_E There is no reason to believe otherwise at this point, don't worry! :-)

Aside from these new facts, all that’s currently known about the next Mass Effect game is that it will run on the Frostbite 3 engine and that it won’t feature original trilogy showrunner Commander Shepard (BioWare previously confirmed that, regardless of whatever ending players chose in Mass Effect 3, Shepard’s story is done).
