The long-awaited reboot of the Shadowrun tactical RPG franchise is coming next month with a full set of modding tools included.
Developer Harebrained Schemes has officially confirmed a release date for their Kickstarter-funded reboot of the popular Shadowrun franchise and they have a few other surprises to mark the occasion.
The demand for a new old-school tactical top-down RPG set within a popular sci-fi universe was made clear enough when Shadowrun Returns generated nearly $1.8 million in funding over the course of its Kickstarter campaign, roughly four times the amount Harebrained Schemes originally asked for.
The developer has put the extra funding to good use, confirming that along with a fully fledged single-player campaign, Shadowrun Returns will also come with a complete set of in-engine modding tools. Using these tools, modders will be able to tweak virtually any element of the game’s single-player campaign and, of course, will also be able to create their own custom maps, stories, and other elements from scratch.
Shadowrun Returns is slated for a July 25, 2013 release date and will be playable on PC, Mac, iPad, and Android tablets (it’s available for pre-order now via Steam).
