Barry Bostwick disccuses his role in Finding Joy.
Do you feel social media plays a part in getting the word out on films like Finding Joy?
I think its life or death. If you don’t know how to control social media for independent films, you are going to get lost. It costs more to enter the festival circuit than to market the film. That is beginning to loose its value to a young filmmaker. You’re lucky if you get actors who have many Facebook followers who can spread the word.
I don’t understand how they do it. To me it’s a brave new world. I am just learning how to attach things to my Facebook. A film I did a while ago, the producer helped me make a Facebook page. I got 5,000 friends, with only 5 friends being real friends, but it helps to promote the film. I am astonished at how it creeps its way into the consciousness of society. First thing I would do if I was producing a movie would be find some whiz kid to promote the movie even prior to production.
I am on a show called Research, a web series, and its really good. They started from day one promoting the film on social media and attempted to grow this network of interest.

GamerHub.TV is primarily a video game website. I know your son is 18, and he may be into video games. Do you play video games?
No. They bore the hell out of me. (Laughs). I can’t play golf or video games, but I can play board games. My brain moves to fast. My son has moved away from killing zombies to playing this soccer game. It actually inspired him to go out and play soccer. I told him good, get your ass off the couch and go kick a ball. It created some interest for him. I would encourage him to play games with strategy and competition.

Since Finding Joy is about a woman attempting to have her final words written for his obituary, what would you want to have on your obituary?
He’s not really an asshole. (Laughs).
