Capcom has unveiled a new Dragon's Dogma free-to-play game coming to PlayStation Vita in Japan.

After a fairly successful launch and follow-up expansion release, Capcom’s new RPG franchise Dragon’s Dogma is looking to take over not one, but two new gaming mediums with its next release: handheld systems and Free-To-Play (F2P).

According to a recent interview with website Famitsu (which was interpreted by Siliconera), Capcom is planning to launch a new stand-alone game called Dragon’s Dogma Quest in Japan for the PlayStation Vita. Dragon’s Dogma Quest will be a 2D action-RPG in which the player doesn’t get to fight directly but instead commands a small party of four pawns and can even team up with up to four of a friend’s pawns. The game will be online-only, but it will also have a very casual quick-play approach.

The game will also feature a F2P monetization model with optional micro-transactions though Sony was not yet ready to elaborate on what exactly those optional purchases would entail (though they did mention the inclusion of items that could help players without a lot of time on their hands to still progress at a comfortable pace which, in layman’s terms, most likely means money/XP boosters).

So far Dragon’s Dogma Quest is only slated for a Japan release but given Sony’s new interest in F2P console titles, it would seem safe to bet that success in Japan might mean we’d see a Western release of Dragon’s Dogma Quest soon after.
