Sony and Microsoft both held press conferences ahead of E3 to unveil their new consoles, but could it have waited?
While it is nice to know the name of the Xbox One (Xbox 720 would have been horrible) what else did we learn about the console other than it has transformed into more an entertainment system instead of a gaming system. It is nice that you can control the Xbox One using the Kinect 2.0 sensor but what gamers were dying to see were GAMES! At the end of the day the majority of Xbox One owners will use the system for that purpose to play games. What we did see were pre-rendered videos and models of games but not actual gameplay footage, which leave an empty feeling of emotion for myself and other gamers alike.
I am in no way bashing Microsoft’s newest console because Sony’s presentation also had many similar details missing, Microsoft’s is more recent and brings up many of the same feelings I had after the Playstation announcement. But I felt like the two companies were playing “I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours”.
I get that E3 2013 is right around the corner in June and that is where Sony and Microsoft will finally battle head to head and give us the information we have been waiting for such as pricing and release date. But if the two gaming mega-powers wanted to make a statement they could have shown their full hand at their presentations and at E3 thrown the consoles in the hands of gamers and let them decide. Not string us along until E3 and trickle out information until then.
Of course I will tune into E3 like the rest of the world and have my gaming thirst quenched by the bevy of information that will be laid out before us. I just hope all of our questions are answered at E3 and the battle for next-gen supremacy can really start.
