The guys behind the video game fighting tournament have turned developers with new RPG.

Tom Cannon and his twin brother Tony founded the EVO Fighting Championship, which has grown into a huge annual Las Vegas event that celebrates games like Street Fighter and Tekken. Now the brothers have turned game developers with Radiant Entertainment, which is launching its first game, Stonehearth (stonehearth.net) via Kickstarter. Check out the first look of the new city-building MMORPG below.

“We love fighters deeply, but from the time we were kids we've also been passionate about geeky simulation games,” said Tom Cannon, co-founder and president, Radiant Entertainment. “Stonehearth combines our love of complex simulations with the 16-bit feel of RPGs from our childhoods, powered by some serious tech on the back-end. Build your city brick by brick (or use pre-fab templates) and grow your economy, as you fend off goblin hordes  and amass wealth (and then hope your piles of gold don't attract an epic dragon attack).

Starting from procedurally generated terrain, with dynamic AI encounters (built on the model of old-school D&D adventure modules), Stonehearth combines city sim and good old combat with infinite building possibilities, plus shareable moddability at every level, from your city itself on down to the people and creatures inhabiting it.
