The big N is trying new marketing strategies and the big-time E3 presentation is on the chopping block.
I don’t know when the idea of Nintendo not having a major presentation at E3 will set in. It will probably set in when I’m trying to find in on the guide for my TV and then remembering they aren’t having one. This will save the anti-Nintendo media time they could be complaining about what Nintendo actually showed during their presentation. It looks like Nintendo gets more out of their Nintendo Directs anyway, seeing as thought they don’t have to kill time during those like they usally do at times during their E3 presentations.
One could interpret this as Nintendo thinking they don’t have a chance competing against Sony and Microsoft in the next generation during E3. Another option could be that since Nintendo has lost revenue the last few years, they might be trying to cut back and a smaller presentation at E3 could be a way for them to save money. If they were planning on releasing a new system and they skipped E3, I would think “what the hell?” Since they have already announced what they have planned through Nintendo Directs, they don’t really need to blow the bank on an extravagant E3 presentation. Besides, when Nintendo does do that, they usually have that one “what” moment and that kills the whole presentation for them.It will be interesting to see how Nintendo fares without a massive E3 presentation. It could be seen as a good idea to let the masses play the games Nintendo has planned rather than just talking about them especially ith the lineup they have planned for E3.( Mario 3D/ Mario Kart Wii U/ Super Smash Brothers)
One thing’s for sure, I will still be trying to go in the future and I won’t be too devestated if I don’t get in anymore. Hell, if I don’t get in, I can always watch the presentation online in my pajamas. I could do that in LA, but people might think that as weird. Who knows, in a few years Nintendo could bring the presentation back and keep the Nintendo Directs. E3 should be interesting this year to say the least.
