The big N is trying new marketing strategies and the big-time E3 presentation is on the chopping block.

Nintendo and E3 go together like peanut butter and jelly. Nintendo has been a mainstay at the Electronic and Entertainment Expo for years but this year will be a little different. Don’t misinterpret what I’m saying, Nintendo will still be at E3 but their presence will be smaller than what it has been in previous years. This announcement has been met with mixed reviews across the internet but this could be seen as a good thing.

There have been good days at the Nintendo E3 presentation and there have been bad days at the presentation. It appears that Nintendo wants to avoid the bad days all together and rely solely on showing off what games are playable and give people the chance to play those games. Nintendo will still be having presentations at E3, but son’t expect them to be as big as what you’re use to seeing from Nintendo. Picture Nintendo Directs from the Big N during E3 and there is nothing wrong with that. It kind of surprises me that Nintendo is planning on just showing off new US only software at E3 this year. It surprises me since Nintendo shook up the heirarchy and appointed Satoru Iwata the new Nintendo of America CEO and want to build on their global image.

”First, we decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past. Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media.”( From Mr. Iwata’s statement during his meeting/presentation with investors.)
