Winner Sean Devlin was one of 27 teams competing in event hosted by Austin-based T3 featuring mobile applications for convenience store giant 7-Eleven in just 12 hours.

Austin-based digital advertising agency T3 awarded Sean Devlin as the winner of the 2013 SXSW HackATX hackathon. The 12-hour competition went through the night and resulted in an innovative mobile tool for convenience store giant 7-Eleven.

“This event completely captured what SXSW is about,” said Rick Doerr, president and chief client officer of T3. “We were able to collaborate with some of the best creative technologists and 7-Eleven, one of the worlds most successful companies, to create something new and relevant. Sean was able to utilize 38 enterprise-level APIs that we have built over the past several months to create a convenient and user-friendly consumer product that 7-Eleven can be proud to offer their customers.”

The event gathered 27 teams comprised of 67 total developers who were given all of T3’s APIs that were used to create 7-Eleven’s groundbreaking 7-Election campaign during the 2012 presidential election. Devlin’s winning entry was a SMS-centric app that focused on the convenience of reaching as many of 7-Eleven’s customers as possible, particularly the 70 percent of the world’s population that still use feature phones. With a simple text message to a dedicated phone number, customers using his app can find the closest 7-Eleven, current promotions, available services (e.g. gasoline, propane and Redbox) and directions on how to get there.
