Try to get a good night sleep!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Slumber Real on Steam. I played the demo version of this during a Steam Next Fest, I believe, so let's get right into it.
The game plays like a deck builder but also has roguelike elements as well. You get to play as a kid living their life during the late 1990s, complete with all the bells and whistles that made the 90s what they were. You'll be able to earn an allowance from your folks after every run as well as having chores to do. In the video, I was able to gain more cash by sorting my laundry. You can get things to make your room look fancy as well as buy new cards for your deck and challenges.
The game has an interesting feel to it. You have your basic attacks but during each turn the level changes between night and day. You'll have cards in your deck that will only be able to be played during daytime and some that can only be played during nighttime. You roll dice to attack and if that value matches a card in your hand, you can use it. The same attack system works for the enemy too so be on guard. You can also buy snacks and equipment from shops throughout the journey. There's some equipment that stays until the end of the run and then there's some that have limited uses. You'll also have skills that you can use during your turn. For example, I had a skill that allows me to get shields for my turn and add vulnerability to the enemy. That makes my attacks do more damage during combat. You'll be able to add symbols/colors to your pool, and you need those to use these skills. If you run out, you can't use them. There are spaces along the way that you can make a trade for more symbols so keep an eye out.
Slumber Realm is an interesting take on the deckbuilder, roguelike genre. I can feel the difference from the version I played prior to this one and am looking forward to seeing more of it. I'd like to thank the devs for a review code.Make sure you check out the hands-on video below!
