One of my favorite appointments of the show!
Let me just start by saying that Limited Run usually has one of the best booths at PAX East. This year was no different as they dive into the retro look and feel of things. As a guy who grew up in the late 80s, I can appreciate the dedication to nostalgia with how Limited Run goes about their business at PAX East as well as everyday business. I was at the Limited Run booth to see Double Shake and Shantae Risky Revolution. I was able to test drive both games on a Steam Deck while meeting with Jeremy Campbell, the Marketing Manager for Limited Run. Test run might be a generous term as I only played a total of a few minutes of both games. The rest of the time was having a great time with Jeremy, shooting the breeze in the media-only room. Graphically, both games looked great on the Steam Deck. Shantae Risky Revolution looked like a classic Game Boy Color/Game Boy Advance game and that sounds awesome. It’s always cool to see modern games get that retro flare to them. If I remember correctly, you could jump between foreground and background in this Shantae, similar to Kirby games on the Nintendo 3DS. The colors of Double Shake looked great on the Steam Deck too. Double Shake reminded me of Mario games where you can grab and throw enemies and other things to survive.
I had a blast talking with Jeremy. So much so that I think this was one of my favorite appointments at PAX East this year. I say because our back and forth felt natural. Sometimes when you meet with a developer or game designer, you feel a little nervous or don’t have anything to say. When I sat down and spoke to Jeremy, I didn’t feel that. I told him about what I’m trying to do at GamerFudge and how we cover games. It was also interesting to learn that Jeremy looked into the site as well as coverage on GamerFudge and my YouTube channel, Chichuki. He asked me how I think Limited Run handles things and I told him that they need more Snow Brothers merchandise. I also told him that I think I would be more inclined to buy things from them if they came with a soundtrack and that it didn’t take so long to arrive. Looking back on this, I told him that I have made a lot of purchases from Limited Run and most of those were soundtracks. I even told him I bought the Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 soundtrack records and didn’t have a record player at the time to play them.
I’d like to thank Jeremy for taking time out of PAX East to meet with me. I’d also like to thank him for the copy of Clock Tower Rewind. I’ve never played that game before but have heard a lot about it. We might have a new game to play on The Stevetendo Show on the Shacknews Twitch channel so stay tuned for that.
