pew pew pew!
Performance Design Products is known for their Pixel Pals as well as some of the better-looking game controllers the industry has to offer. They also have some of the cooler looking Amiibo holders based off of classic franchises like Mario and Legend of Zelda. At the Electronics and Entertainment Expo this year, they were showing off something a little different!
As I previously mentioned, PDP is known for their designs for their accessories and this year was no different as they showed off their light gun peripheral, the MARS IR Station. This will bring you back to the days of the light rail arcade shooters, no matter what skill level you happen to be! The light guns work on all types of Televisions and projectors that four players will be able to shoot with the best of them in any surroundings.
Three games will be available from the start, Qubit’s Quest, Voyage of the Dead, and Big Game Hunter: Arcade. I started the booth tour with Qubit’s Quest, playing the mini game mode. The game also has a co-op Adventure mode but the mini games are faster and more exciting. “Dog Gun It” plays like a larger version of Duck Hunt where you get three shots to take down drones that are flying across the screen. Aim for the highest score amongst the team! There are ten mini games that will test your aim, skill and resolve to be the best Qubit the robot dog you can be!
Next up was the quirky yet scary House of the Dead like game, Voyage of the Dead. It’s up to you and possible three other friends to deal with a zombie outbreak aboard a cruise ship. The art style fits perfectly with the action as well as the subtle jokes. For example there is one part where you go through the disco hall and all the zombies are dancing alongside the survivors. You’ll have four characters to choose from at the start with another four unlockable, each with their own style and weapons. You’ll also be able to find special weapons/power-ups strewn about the stages so keep your eyes peeled.
The last game on hand was Big Buck Hunter: Arcade and PDP has teamed up with the Raw Thrills/GameMills Entertainment brands to bring this arcade classic to the Mars. If you’ve played any of the Big Buck Hunter games, you’ll feel right at home hunting for that illusive big game! You’ll be able to compete against your friends for top marks as well as looks for assigned targets so be diligent when it comes to your mark.
Voyage of the Dead was my favorite of the three games as there was non-stop action and brought me back to my House of the Dead days! It looked like I was in the middle of a B rated horror movie trying to survive and that’s a good thing. PDP looks to have a winner on its hands with the Mars!
