Action, adventure RPG with an old school flare!

Faeland plays like a classic action/adventure game of the NES era that is part exploration, part RPG where it won’t hurt to talk to everyone you come across. You play the role of the hero, setting out on his own journey to try to keep peace within the realm. You’ll be able to go on quests during gameplay and if you succeed, you’ll be rewarded for your trouble. During the demo, you were trying to find a ring that belonged to the in-keeper and when you found it, you were able to gain access to more of the game.

You could also be trying to rescue a griffin from a stronghold or breakup an enemy compound; you just never know what the game will have in store for you. You will be able to travel through all kinds of terrains like caves, forests, and castles, dealing with monsters along the way. Faeland has RPG elements such as finding new armor to equip and new weapons to use. Different equipment has different values and thus some are better than others in battle. Some swords are better than others and some tunics have better attributes compared to others.

You will have to find the equipment you like and stick with it. If I were going to compare Faeland to a classic NES game, it would be Zelda 2: the Adventures of Link. The puzzle-solving elements are similar, the character designs are similar, and the unforgiving jumps are similar. The platforming and exploration are very similar to Zelda 2 as well.

The demo has jumps that are very unforgiving as there are enemies that are attacking from above and with arrows in front of you at the same time. You also have to watch out for vines in the ground too at times so I would consider some of these jumps unforgiving. There is another dungeon area later on that has even more unforgiving jumps that has to do with enemy location but during the demo the attack/jump combo was being a little uncooperative for me.

If you can line up a sword attack-jump combo at this moment, you would have no issue making it through the sewer area but like I said, the controls were being fidgety here. You also have the ability to use items like healing spells and other items that will make gameplay easier. Make sure you learn how to use the menu early on in the game because you will need to be able to switch weapons/shields on the fly later on in the game and it could be life and death if you don’t have the right shield and sword combination equipped.

It will also be key to learn the attack system quickly because there are large boss fights in the dungeons and you will need to know what you’re doing to fight these large monsters. Classic RPG fans will want to check out Faeland as well as fans of the more RPG-like Legend of Zelda games as they are similar to Faeland. One of your first sets of clothing is a green suit and I don’t think I need to tell you who you look like when you wear it now do I?
