Nintendo recently declared 2013 the year of Luigi. Is this an accurate statement?

Another game was revealed during the presentation. That game was Mario and Luigi: Dream Team. From prior experiences, we all know that these games are pretty fun and humorously written. It should also be mentioned that Mario and Luigi usually have the same billing in these games and each one is the star of these games. The video starts and Luigi is sleeping. Wait, what? Did I miss something, why is Luigi sleeping? First a ghost vacuum and now a game where he is sleeping, what is going on here?

It was revealed that Luigi’s dreams are the stages for the game; didn’t Nintendo already have a Mario game that was a dream? Getting off topic here, Mario does the fighting with copies of Luigi’s in the dreams. In a game that stars Luigi, he sets the stage for the stages and his copies fight alongside Mario. The part of the video where you can flick Luigi reminded me of the emotional roller coaster Princess Peach went on in Super Princess Peach.

It appears that we have reached a point in Luigi-lure where he is just the second banana and the fans are ok with that. Is it good enough that Luigi gets the starring role once every so often? Nintendo should throw Luigi a bone every once in a while and I guess they did with these games mentioned. Even so, it’s great to see a new Mario Golf as well as Mario and Luigi being released. If the plan is to stay with Luigi co-starring and being support roles, give the fans what they want, Mario Hockey and Mario Football. I bet the Mario Brothers could be better field goal kickers than the Gramática brothers.
