San Francisco Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong talks video games.
What are your thoughts about kids getting off the couch and getting active when it comes to video games today?
I think it’s great. Obviously, how good these games are, kids aren’t getting as much exercise as they used to, so the fact that they can do both at the same time I think it’s amazing. It’s a good thing. Obviously, video games are a big part of our society now so the fact that they can play and get some exercise at the same time is great.
What was it like filming the ESRB PSA?
We were over at a GameStop outside of Scottsdale. Basically, me and Buster Posey were playing in the store and a kid and his dad come up and the kid wants to play and we ask the dad if he had checked the rating on the game that he’s holding in his hand, and he says no. And we explain to him what he needs to be looking for and where to look and what it means. At the end tell people this is how you can find out what the rating is and this is where you go to look to find out what the ratings are.
Did you know that a lot of games that people play today are made right where you guys live in San Francisco?
Yeah, I knew that. I just knew that from knowledge. I don’t know if most people do, but I did know that so I think it was good doing the PSA in the Bay Area.
Where would you like to see things go next when it comes to your favorite sports video game?
Well, I’m a big NCAA Football guy and for me they’ve pretty much nailed that game down for me right now. So I’m just looking forward to the new one coming out and playing some more college football when I get a chance.
Who’s your go-to team?
I always go with an underdog and I try to make them look as good as I can. I take them through the franchise mode.
