Is this ultimate edition worth the battle?

The original DOA5 looked great and this Ultimate edition is no different. While I feel that a little more detail could have been given to the fighters overall look, the attention to details in the environments are staggering. Areas in the environment shatter, crumble, and explode during the fray. The game also features various levels in certain stages that can be reached by knocking your opponent through a vent or over the side of scaffolding. The game also features a new Power Blow move that allows you to unleash combos and a powerful ending strike. The visual impact of these moves is great.

DOA5 Ultimate is a great game for fans of the fighting genre. The game features all of the features from the original as well as additions from the Vita version of the game. Online two vs. two tag team matches are great and the fighting mechanics are as tight as ever. While there have been minor changes, it does not seem worth buying a new copy of the game to experience them. Still, if you are a die hard DOA fan or a fighting fan that has not yet purchased DOA5, this may still not be for you. Tecmo Koei are taking a page out of Capcom’s game manual and are releasing a arcade version of DOA5 this winter with even more changes. Still, this is a great game and a great addition to the franchise, even if it is a quick cash in for Team Ninja.

Score: 8 / 10
