It's a bit difficult at times, but it definitely stands out from the pack.

If you can't find the song you're looking for, the game does provide the option to add your own through a song editor, allowing you to put together your own fighting tunes however you wish. So if you really do want to add One Direction, here's your chance – but, really, stick with the more hardcore stuff. We added in some tracks from the 70's punk band Death for good measure and they worked really well.

With competitive leaderboards, a steep learning curve that will keep you coming back and a style that's truly all its own, Zen Studios' KickBeat is another notch in its development belt, a game you'll be happy to play on PS3 and PS Vita – and with Cross-Buy intact, you can get both for fairly cheap. It may not be the easiest game out there, but it's definitely one of the more hard-hitting when it comes to music/rhythm games. Imagine if Parappa the Rapper's Master Onion made the trip...

Score: 8 / 10
