Don't be blue, this game is acually not that bad!

While playing, you collect Smurf Berries. These berries serve the same purpose as coins in Sonic The Hedgehog. When hit by an enemy use loose your berries. Loose all your berries and take damage, you die. You receive points for every berry you have at the end of the level. While playing, you can also collect gold coins engraved with the face of a generic Smurf. Collecting these coins allow you to unlock or “find” various Smurfs like Harmony and Handy. Some of these coins can only be unlocked by using specific Smurfs. These Smurfs are not used during gameplay, but instead populate Smurf Village. There are Smurfs you can unlock such as Brainy, Smurfette, and Hefty by meeting certain objectives in the game.

The Smurfs 2 is a fun game. The game stays truer to the source material than the films, while injecting enough of the modern take to not confuse or alienate its target audience. This game is kid focused but is challenging enough for adult fans to enjoy it and complete in an afternoon. The gameplay is simple and the Smurf’s abilities are fun. The game is not a must have, but if you want to introduce your children into the smurftastic world of the Smurfs, this is a great way to start. Just be sure to tell them the real story behind Smurfette first.

Score: 6 / 10
