Is this noir murder mystery worth the download? Find out in our review!

Echoes boasts that it features a film noir style. While the monotonous and repetitive music may come slightly close to that idea, the presentation does not. Someone mistook the idea of film noir for a black and white Instagram filter. The black and white presentation of the game does not add anything to the experience. You are stuck reading words on screen with a boring and uninteresting backdrop. Using this color with pops of color highlighting clues or important information would have been great, but instead you receive a boring and outdated environment with very few if any pops of color.

Echoes: Episode 1 is a disappointment. The game clearly focuses on storytelling while attempting to invoke a certain mood. While the story is the highest point of this game, the gameplay and graphics do not make up for it. When announced, we wanted to much to like this game, but it fell short in so many ways. Still, if you have the patience for the out of date pint and click genre, the story is interesting and this may be the game for you. For most gamers, the mystery of this game can be described in one statement, not worth the download.

Score: 5 / 10
