Being a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons and Blade Runner, Shadowrun the RPG is a mixture of man, magic, and machine enough to get any geeks blood pumping. But does Shadowrun Returns do the tabletop game justice? Find out in our review.
The saving grace of Shadowrun Returns is it’s fairly unique setting and the possibility for future mods. What excites a lot of people about Returns is it’s included story editor. Allegedly the entire game was made with tools equivalent to what is being given to the public meaning that the diehard fans could produce some really well written and interesting stories for all the would be runners out there. However, since the game has only just been officially released to the public there is not that much in the way of user made content.
I had high hopes for Shadowrun Returns but with it’s repetitive combat, and story that takes a nose dive, and a completely broken save system that only allows for saves at story checkpoints, I really cannot recommend it it to anyone but extreme Shadowrun fans, fans who most likely already bought the game. I would give Shadowrun Returns a 6/10, but given a couple of months, if the fans have made some truly amazing stories it could maybe be a 8/10.
