And it won't cost you a fortune for sound quality, either.
The PX22 also does its job well when it comes to sound balance. No, it's not true 7.1 surround sound, but for the price, it's quite acceptable. We blared a few tunes on it through our Xbox 360 XMB and found the adjustable levels to be quite good, though some harder songs had to have the treble moved around a slight bit. (Thankfully, the knob was easy to use, and we found our level easily.) As for gameplay sessions, the headset held up well, whether we were jumping around with Sonic the Hedgehog (this set does a surprisingly good job of bringing old-school games to solid life) or blaring through a round of Battlefield 3. Again, occasional balance problems led to some adjustments, but hardly anything where you'd swear off using the headset.
As for chat response, the PX22 met our capable needs. You do need the Xbox 360 chat cable to use it on that system, but otherwise, we found that there were no problems in giving and hearing a response – depending on other gamers, of course. The microphone doesn't get in the way of the action, either – Turtle Beach really knows how to be convenient when you want to see what you're doing.
Though we still like the deluxe $150-$300 headsets that are on the market (they so spoil us), Turtle Beach's PX22 is a really great model to go with if you're crunched for a budget, but still want to get the kind of sound quality you expect from a console. You'll need to make some minor tweaks, but otherwise, this headset is a real value at $80. Plug, play and enjoy.
