Is Evil Dead just another remake? Find out in our review!
The movie takes a realistic and horrific turn and will keep the audience on the edge of their seats for the entire movie. This reimaging foregoes the campiness of the original and delivers scares and horror at every turn. The amount of blood and gore in this film will make even those with an iron stomach sick yet it is never gratuitous and never seems out of place.
The gore and blood in this film is violent fun.
Even with all of the evil death that takes place, Evil Dead still maintains the humor of the original and you will laugh at moments that feel inappropriate. Jane Levy puts on an amazing performance as Mia and you will truly believe she is possessed. While Shiloh Fernandez’s David is no Ash, even though he does share the same outfit worn in the original, he is still believable as the hero who desperately wants to save his sister. All of the cast is believable in their roles, especially Eric who is punished throughout the movie at the audience’s delight for opening the Book of the Dead in the first place.
You will never want to walk alone in the woods again.
The boomstick, the chainsaw, and even the classic Buick from the original are all here with the chainsaw coming into play at the film’s finale. While the film does seem to go on a bit too long in the third act, and there are some predictable scares, Evil Dead is a film that stays true to the source material while creating its own niche in the franchise.
Jessica Lucas also delivers a great performance.
With rumors that a sequel is already being written and that Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi will team again for the fourth installment in the original franchise, I for one am hoping for a future filled with the Evil Dead. And imagine what would happen if the two separate sets of films met for one amazingly bloody and evil ending. That is something that books wrapped in human flesh are made of.
The iconic chainsaw plays a huge role in the movie.
