Is the re-release of Virtua Fighter 2 a K.O.? Find out in our review!

The gameplay is what you remember from Virtua Fighter 2. Players can win matches by knocking out their opponent or by simply knocking them out of the fighting ring. The latter option can be used to even the playing field between experienced and novice players. The Virtua Fighter series was always known for combat heavy fighting with out the powers and long range attacks people were used to from the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter series. The fighting mechanics are still fun and both easy to learn but difficult to master.

The nostalgia factor is not enough to save this re-release.

Virtua Fighter 2, much like the rest of Sega’s Model 2 Collection, is fun for the first 5 minutes. Once the warm feeling of nostalgia fades away, you will want to knock yourself out for purchasing this re-release. The same great gameplay is there that you remember, but fighting games have improved so much since then that there are not enough bells or whistles to warrant a download.

Score: 6 / 10
